Continuing this list from our previous post, here are 21 additional Dos and Don’ts to make your content contribute significantly towards lead generation and conversion.
- Do market your content widely. Don't think this will happen automatically, so have a process, a system and the right resources to do this effectively.
- Do encourage your staff to create content, but don't coerce them or the quality will suffer.
- Do keep up to date with what your website visitors are looking for. Don't ignore comments and requests on your own site or on social media about your content or company.
- Do write technical content if your prospects will require this, but don't only have technical content.
- Do curate content; don't curate content only from other sources rather than producing your own.
- Do tie content tightly to strategy; don't assume content will work alone.
- Do use guest bloggers and writers, and don't expect them to do it for free.
- Do use a good editor; don't be too restrictive over editorial practices though.
- Do make sure your content is mobile friendly; don't ignore that enormous audience.
- Do optimize your content for users and visitors; don't write specifically for the search engines.
- Do help to answer questions; don't assume you have the only answer.
- Do allow comments; don't presume that negative comments are all bad and delete them.
- Do produce customer-centric content. Don't focus only on your business.
- Do share your content with other websites and blogs. Don't fall into the duplicate content trap.
- Do include keywords and long-tail phrases; don't stuff!
- Do cite and quote third party sources, research and stats for added credibility. Don't fail to do your own research too
- Do create content regularly. Don't put quantity before quality.
- Do be passionate within your content; don't be obsessive or blinkered.
- Do integrate social sharing buttons. Don't fail to monitor social media.
- Do claim authorship of your articles. And don't claim authorship of other people's content – it will backfire!
