Ensure Strong Rankings for Your Digital Content: Content Optimization Techniques

Follow these Expert Content Optimization Techniques

Digital marketing has become an essential avenue to achieve visibility and success for your business, online and offline. While most people are familiar with the basics, they may not be comfortable with SEO and the online page ranking system. It’s important to know that SEO is not just a buzzword, but rather an important addition to your digital marketing strategy. Algorithms and optimization may seem like complicated tech buzzwords, but learning how to navigate them will be imperative in the success of your digital content.

Hey Google, Rank this for Me

It comes as no surprise that Google is the most popular search engine in the world. Even the word “google” is synonymous with ‘look-up’ or ‘search.’ Google’s search algorithm uses over 200 signals to rank its content listings. And while the algorithm continues to change every year, some things remain constant. According to writer, Aleh Barysevich, here are some of the important signals to keep in mind when it comes to optimization.

  1. Search Intent: Everyone has certain intent in mind when they search for something on Google. Google’s goal is to understand what that intent was, so they can provide users with the most relevant results.
Try searching for your target keywords to understand what search intents might be hidden behind them. Seeing the results for your keywords can help you identify where you’re hitting the ball or missing the mark.
  2. Click Through Rates (CTR): It’s easy to understand why this might be one of the most important signals for Google. If people are clicking and staying on your content, you’re likely to have a strong CTR. An increase in CTR usually results in a ranking boost, since it signifies your content’s relevance to a large amount of people.
  3. Keywords: Keywords are your hidden weapons in conquering search results. The closer your keywords are to the beginning of the title, the better your chances of a high rank.  However, being overly generous with your use can result in penalization from the algorithm. Use them cautiously, effectively and only, when relevant.
  4. Be Comprehensive: Rather than matching content with singular keywords, Google now gives priority to pages that match the meaning of the search sentence. Being comprehensive can help you stand out and achieve success. Furthermore, your content will be relevant to the user – one of the best ways to ensure repetitive engagement and clicks on your site.
  5. Check your Grammar: While this seems redundant, grammar is an essential indicator of good quality work. Well-written, error free work is a signal to Google that your content is worth sharing with their users. Programs like Microsoft Word or Pages provide spelling and grammar checks, but it can be beneficial to look into programs like Grammarly for additional review.
  6. HTML: An organized HTML markup makes a happy search engine. Search engines like Google rely on HTML to understand what your content is actually about. Cleaning up your HTML code does not have to fall on you alone – sites like WordPress have plugins that can help you clean and optimize your HTML.
  7. Keep your Content Unique: While it’s easy to duplicate content, it can be harmful for your site. Google appreciates uniqueness and rewards it by improving your rankings. Sites like Copyscape can help you double-check your work. A good way to keep your content unique is to utilize UGC or user-generated content.

When you apply that to a creative endeavour like content marketing, you might be undervaluing some of your content creative efforts. It can be expensive to create content, from scheduling videographers, photographers, models, or even having quality copywriters write a blog post. Why Your Content Must Be the Burning Question for Your Audience!

Google is constantly adding search features that help users get relevant information quickly. The “People Also Ask” feature has been around for a while, but it seems to be gaining traction as it’s being used in more searches. PAA boxes are another type of digital real estate, increasing your reach on a particular subject if you can get featured as an answer to a PAA question. Make it part of your content marketing strategy, even if you don’t rank for it immediately. The results might be slow, but they are worth waiting for.

And Why It's Important!

Featured snippets on Google are valuable digital real estate for your content marketing assets. These snippets are quick answers to search questions. Although snippets are designed to provide answers for the user without having to clickthrough to the page, Hubspot found that content with a snippet had a higher click-through rate of 2x or more, making this search feature important to your SEO strategy. If you can get your copywriting featured as a snippet, it builds your authority and visibility.
