Is a Blog a Good Investment for Your Brand?

Key Content Trends to Consider

Orbit Media Studios just released its 8th annual survey about blogging and content trends. With responses from over 1,000 bloggers, the insight they gained into the industry can help drive your blogging efforts. Bottom line—blogging is effective, but getting results isn’t easy. You’re competing against over 600+ million blogs to get attention. Here are some of the key findings from the survey that can help drive your content strategy.

What Content is Being Published?

Bloggers have multiple formats for content. The most popular types of content that bloggers publish is how-to articles and lists. Although 24% of bloggers reported publishing webinars, the popularity of webinars declined from last year. Webinars were also the least popular of the types of content among bloggers surveyed. Most blogs published were between 500 to 1500 words. Only about 4% of bloggers wrote long-form content, over 3,000 words.

What Types of Content Gets Results?

Just because bloggers publish content doesn’t mean they see results. Overall, the survey found that the most popular types of content that was published didn’t correlate with success. Bloggers who published the most popular type of content, the frequent how-to articles, did not report success. Strangely enough, the least popular types of published content, roundups, gated content, and webinars, seemed to get the strongest results. The bloggers also supported visual content when seeing “strong results.” Blogs that used four or more pictures seemed to get better results.

What Promotion Techniques Get Results?

The survey did find that bloggers who publish consistently get better results. The most popular method to share and promote content was through social media and email marketing. The least popular method of sharing content was through influencers. But the surveyed bloggers got the best results when they used influencers. Social media and email work, but influencers can drive results.

What Challenges Do Other Bloggers Face?

The surveyed bloggers identified their biggest challenges. Do any of these ring true for you?

  • Finding time to create and promote content.
  • Getting traffic and visitors.
  • Creating quality content and enough content consistently.
  • Coming up with topics that are relevant and interesting.
  • Finding support within the organization.

The information from this industry survey can help you analyze and refine your content strategy. Because guess what, they have heard of ChatGPT and other ‘magical’ content creation tools that fill them with confidence that they too can dish out content like a pro. So don't skip your literary greens, folks. Your writing muscles will thank you!
Are you struggling to write compelling content for your business? Don't worry, you're not alone. But before you hit that panic button, remember what Stephen King said, "If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that." Yes, that Stephen King. The horror writer. If he can dish out writing advice, so can we! And the advice is simple: read. Here are 3 reasons to build a reading habit.

Content Marketing Best Practices that Garner Attention

Remember the movie, “Field of Dreams”? It made popular the phrase, “If you build it, he will come”. If you’re trying to get more traffic to your website, don’t wait for your local SEO efforts to direct your audience. Give them a hand with these proven content strategies.

How to Use a Pillar Page to Improve your Content Quality

Consider the dictionary meaning of ‘pillar’ – “a firm, upright support for a superstructure”, also defined as “a fundamental precept”. Your content marketing campaign is your ‘superstructure’ that requires a ‘firm, upright support’. That’s the key function of content pillar pages. Without these essential supports, your ‘content superstructure’ will neither stand strong, nor will it attract the right attention.

Two Proven Ways to Organize Products with Similar Keywords

In business, cannibalization typically refers to a loss of sales. A company introduces a new product that displaces sales of an older, usually more outdated, product. Instead of having an increase in sales, the market growth remains stable. What does this mean in the world of SEO and content marketing? Keyword cannibalization occurs when two products have similar keywords or phrases and confuses the search engines about which page is right for which query. Instead of competing with other businesses for search traffic, you’re competing with your own web pages. Here’s why keyword cannibalization is bad for business and how you can overcome it.

How to Optimize your Content for a Global Audience

The global market is much smaller than it once was.  Statista reports over 5 billion internet users globally, or about 63.1% of the population. Reaching out to a broader market can help your business grow, but it’s not as simple as updating your website in a new language and simply hoping your audience finds you through search.

How to Build a Functional Content Marketing Funnel

Most people don’t wake up and think, “oh, today is the day I buy my new mattress,” unless they’ve researched different brands and checked pricing at different stores. Using that information about today’s shoppers can help you design a content marketing map, or funnel, that guides the customer to your product.
