5 Most Common Content Marketing Myths Busted

So, you think you’ve got your content marketing all sewn up? The problem is that the world of content marketing is constantly moving and evolving.  If it’s not another Google update upsetting the SEO apple cart, it’s another marketing technique that you need to master.  And to make matters worse, there are a number of content marketing myths that can drive you to do the same things over and over with little in the way of results.  Let’s bust some of those myths right now and get you back on the right track.

  1. Write lots of content!  That will work, right?
Wrong!  Just because you have written and published it doesn’t mean people will read it.  You need a catchy heading, you need meaty content and you need a reason for people to keep reading past the first paragraph.  And if that wasn’t enough, you have to drive your audience to your content.  Well researched keywords are good, but you really need to focus on the quality of your  posts, articles and web copy.  Quality over quantity always wins online.
  2. But I can’t always write quality content!
Oh yes you can, or you can commission MintCopy to write it for you of course.  Quality content is not actually that hard to write especially if you write about something you know and love. In fact, writing from the heart shows and will appeal more to your audience than a subject that you write cold and with no knowledge of.
  3. Content marketing will cost me a lot of money
Investing in good quality content can pay great dividends, but you won’t know until you try. Just one well written article could be enough to elevate your brand head and shoulders above your competition and into the direct line of sight of your target audience.
  4. Content marketing is a passing phase
We’ve heard this before too, but it is not a fad, not a phase and not a trend. Content marketing is traditional marketing (and we all know how old that is) that has been modified and made super efficient  to work online. It’s effective and most definitely here to stay.
  5. Content marketing will get me instant exposure
Hmm, not always.  You might need to work a little at getting your content noticed. But with so many online tools at your disposal (press releases, social media updates, articles, etc.) you shouldn’t have a problem.

At MintCopy we love to bust the myths and show how our customers can really thrive using the right content marketing techniques.  Contact us now at 888-646-8003 or send us an email to find out more.

Something we hear quite often from clients is, “We have a creative team, so we can write our own content”. The confidence and enthusiasm are wonderful to see. But here’s what makes content creation so challenging. You can put a lot of effort and creativity into your content, but without audience engagement, it’s like cooking up a storm worthy of a banquet without any guests. The true measure of successful content isn’t what you put into it, but what your audience does with it.

According to eMarketer, Google Home is the most popular smart speaker in Canada, with Amazon Echo right behind. It’s estimated that almost 20% of the population used smart speakers in 2020. Imagine yourself in a real-life social situation. Will you stand around and talk to others in the room even if they aren’t listening or seem bored and disinterested? Umm, awkward. In the lean, mean structure of smaller businesses, in-house copywriters often don’t specialize in copywriting. It’s just one of many hats they wear as part of their overall duties. Thirty years ago, we were using desktop-based PCs with dial up connections. Today, smartphones fit in the palm of our hands, allowing us to be connected from literally anywhere in the world. Wearables go a step further; you just strap a smartwatch on to your wrist and it packs a punch. People consume content differently, too. Instead of reading long documents, most people skim content for quick answers. Your content strategy must keep up with your audience. Using pillar pages and cluster posts to organize content is an efficient approach that benefits your readers and your SEO rankings. And oh, your writers will thank you profusely, too!
